This R03 grant mechanism supports pilot or feasibility studies and developmental research projects with the intention of obtaining sufficient preliminary data for a subsequent investigator-initiated Research Project Grant (R01) application. Clinical trials of any phase will not be supported by this FOA. A budget for direct costs of up to $150,000 over a two-year period may be requested. Application budgets should not exceed $100,000 in direct costs in one year.
