Hi everyone, I am Babak (pronounce as you please!). I'm originally from Tehran, Iran. My formal background is in Electrical Engineering (integrated optics, to be precise), from Sharif University of Technology (Tehran, Iran) and then Georgia Tech (Atlanta, GA, USA). I have transitioned since to microbial community ecology in my postdoc, mentored by Wenying Shou at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Seattle, WA, USA). I am currently an assistant professor in the department of biology at Boston College (Chestnut Hill, MA, USA). We study microbial interactions (a mix of modeling and experimentation) to understand how intercellular interactions can lead to emerging community functions and properties.
I am interested in inclusive practices in producing, distributing, and evaluating science. I am also currently part of the Early-Career Advisory Group at eLife. I look forward to discussions on how we can improve the way science is done and shared.
Welcome to ECRcentral! Glad to have you here and happy to hear your feedback and comments about the platform.
